Piano-pounding honky-tonker Becky
Hobbs is an Oklahoma native and violinist's daughter who began playing
and making up tunes at age nine. When she was 14, Hobbs began writing Bob Dylan-influenced protest songs
and singing in a folk duo with her pal Beth Morrison. The following year
she started the Four Faces of Eve, an all-girl band. While attending Tulsa
University, she played in Sir Prize Package. In 1971 she was performing
with Swampfox. Three years later she moved to Los Angeles, where she had
some success as a songwriter for Helen Reddy and Jane Olivor before eventually moving
to Nashville. In 1974, Hobbs released her self-titled debut album. The
following year, she released From the Heartland, followed two years later
by Everyday. In 1978, Hobbs recorded
"The More I Get the More I Want," her first minor hit. Her next single, "I
Can't Say Goodbye to You," made it to the Top 50, and led to three more
minor hits. Meanwhile, she continued writing; during the '80s, performers
including Lacy J. Dalton and the Tennessee
Valley Boys had success with her songs.
In 1983, Hobbs scored a
Top Ten hit for Columbia with "Let's Get Over Them Together," a duet with
Moe Bandy. Over the next two years,
she had four hits for Liberty/EMI-America, among them "Hottest 'Ex' in
Texas," and her songs were recorded by George Jones and Loretta Lynn ("We Sure Made Good
Love"), Alabama ("I Want to Know You Before
We Make Love," "Christmas Memories"), Moe Bandy and Joe Stampley ("Still on a Roll"),
and Shelly West ("I'll Dance the Two
Step," "How It All Went Wrong"). Hobbs debuted on the Grand Ole Opry in
1985. Two years later she had hit songs recorded by Conway Twitty, Glen Campbell and Emmylou Harris. In 1988 Hobbs
released the album All Keyed Up, which produced three successful singles
including "Jones on the Jukebox." In 1992 she and her band the Heartthrobs
toured Africa as part of the U.S. Government agency Arts America. From
Oklahoma with Love followed in 1998.

THE
TEAR
There’s something about a photograph.
Many people believe
that having your picture taken
steals some of your soul.
I look at pictures of friends and
relatives who have died,
and I can see that soul,
especially in
the eyes, the expression,
and even the body english.
I have a picture of my mother
taken at a holiday gathering during her later years.
She was
smiling, and seemed to be in the Christmas spirit.
I’ve looked at that picture
many times,
but a few weeks ago, I enlarged it,
and thought I
saw something.
I hit the 200%
button, made it really big,
and zoomed in on her face.
The
smile was still there,
but in her eye I saw something unexpected:
A tear.
I sat back in shock and
took a deep breath.
What could she have been thinking?
Was it a
tear of joy or sadness?
Did she know that it may be one of her last
family moments?
I asked her that question aloud,
but the
photograph didn’t answer.
I’m sure we were all enjoying
the moment together,
but at the same time, taking it for granted.
You always think there will be many more.
Now I realize
my
mother was not taking that moment for granted.
I keep going back to look at the
photo,
even though it’s burned into my mind,
and my
heart.
When I discovered the tear
behind her smile,
I had tears to match hers.
We spoke to each
other beyond the limits of time and space.
There is soul in a photograph.

Longtime friends and co-writers Carol
Hashe Rainone, Marty Rainone, Gordon Ellis and myself get together at Carol
and Marty's house every few months for what is known in Nashville as a
critique session. Sitting around a dining room table, we play each other
some of our latest compositions, or rewritten versions of previously played
songs, to getfeedback from our peers about the "health" of our song
"children." It's really a great fine-tuning process. Our songs always come
away the better for it, as we've learned from our years in Nashvegas that
songwriting isn't just about writing. Unless you're very lucky, songwriting
is really about rewriting, not necessarily the whole song but usually at
least a portion of a song, whether lyric, melody, or both. Of course, we
are free to take whatever suggestions are offered, which are all made in a
positive, "what's best for the song" manner. There are many of these song
critique groups taking place around town. Some people get together to play
cards; we get together to play songs. Maybe you can start your own
Nashville-style critique group in Arizona, Mississippi, New England, Sweden
or...wherever you are. May the muse be with
you!

Allen Hi Lonnie, My song Alaska from my new CD Alaska just left the ECMA top 100 after 22 weeks.
The hightest the song got on the chart was #28. -Review by DJ Pete Smith,
FAB-AM Radio, UK- When one refers to a veteran performer one expects strong stories of life surrounded by equally strong country sounds. Ervin Allen is a veteran and you get what you would expect in spades! Raised in Madison, Wisconsin, Ervin was initially influenced by Elvis and his flamboyant performing style and the Beatles for their harmonies and the lyrical quality of their songs. Later his influences would include Johnny Cash, Roger Miller and Hank Snow, then Gordon Lightfoot, John Prine and Bob Dylan. The fact that Ervin has learned much from these legendary singer/writers is evident on his current album, the entirely original, Alaska (Land of Midnight Sun), and its program of ten strong story songs. The album is long on home, a longing for and an appreciation of, with songs like I'm Homeward Bound, Basswood, Green, Green Valley and Alaska (a world-wide radio hit single). Home has always been a popular country theme almost as popular as love and Ervin explores this territory effectively with You're In My Memory, She Didn't Love Me and Let's Make A Memory Tonight. Produced by Andrew LaValley in Madison, Wisconsin, the album features a bunch of unknown (to me) but extremely talented musicians. I do recommend you check out Ervin Allen at www.myspace.com/ervinallen Thanks, Ervin
Allen ===================================================== Happy Holidays Everyone!I wanted to take the time to touch base and say hello and I hope this finds everyone in my area doing good. I have had a pretty rough year with all of the flooding that took place in June. My children and I have finally been able to return to our home but with many repairs still to be done. My children and I, would like to take the time to thank eveyone who sent their thoughts and prayers as well as donations to us in our time of need. I am proud to say that we have been able to come home and work as we can thanks to all of your support! From my children and myself, thank you all! On a lighter and happy note, I am proud to say I have released my very first Holiday album! It is entitled "A Country Cajun Christmas" and is available for only $7.99 on my website at www.samanthalynnhart.com ! There is even a special stocking stuffer available on there just for the holiday season! You can get the 2008 released "Hart to Heart" album and a personally signed Holiday album for only $17.25! This is a 25% savings! Again, withouth your support I could not put out new CD's and I thank you all! I hope you all have a wonderful and safe Holiday season! I am truley blessed with my family and friends to be around during the holiday season! I do want to take the time to remind everyone that it is not always the expensive gifts that make the difference! Love is the best and longest lasting gift you can give. So no matter if it is just a card or a quick phone call, contact that family member or friend just to say hi this season, it will be better than anything you can buy! Thank you again for all of your support! That alone is my gift this season! The blessing of friends and support like yours will carry me through the cold! town of Estill Springs, just a rock's throw to Winchester and have put our
home on it..right now we have shades of grass growing and leaves from the
huge trees falling into the creek below so will have a leaf raking party

reception for the walkers before the Nashville Predators (local
professional hockey team) game held that night. Ok..guess thats all

Cline’s Corner is owned by David and Becky Cline, located at Old Mill Market Place on The Mountain, and provides country music entertainment on First Mondays. Cline is a veteran country singer/songwriter, who has traveled the world, including Europe, performing his original music. Cline is currently working on his 7th country CD and also has recorded one gospel CD. Cline is regularly joined by country/gospel singer Tammy Miller. Miller has performed at oprys, special events, fairs and festivals throughout Texas, as well as Nashville, NYC & Oklahoma. In 2001, she was nominated as Female Vocalist of the year by Coast to Coast Country Music Magazine. Cline’s Corner opened a year ago and both Cline and Miller perform there every month. Brett Miller, Tammy’s husband, runs the sound board and they host a variety of singers for their shows. "We are always looking for new talent," said Tammy Miller. Cline and Miller were joined at Cline’s Corner on Saturday, November 1, 2008, by Candice Lloyd and Mallory Rardin. Lloyd is a senior at Rockwall-Heath High School. She began singing on stage at age 13 at Rodeo City Music Hall in Mesquite, Texas, where she received the 2007 Female Horizon Award. In addition to singing, Lloyd writes song lyrics and hopes to record one of her original tunes next year, as well as release a new CD. Rardin attends Smithfield Junior High in North Richland Hills and is 12 years old. She sang the National Anthem at Texas Motor Speedway in 2004, and again in 2006 at the request of the Mayor of North Richland Hills for their Policeman’s Ball. Rardin’s future bookings include Cline's Corner and RCMH, on November 15, 2008. "I am honored to have such talented artists grace our stage," said Cline. "I have received lots of compliments, from the surrounding vendors on The Mountain, on the talent we had Saturday." everyone, As usual I am as busy as a $2 hooker. Working hard on my
homestead and putting a new band together. It's a difficult task as we
mostly live a fair distance apart but its coming together. I met an
excellent Guitar player named Don Parker who worked at Gilley's (Texas) for
a long time. He's going to share leads with me so I can be more
relaxed and gooffy and hopfully be a little more entertaining.
I will be performing on the Nowata
Jubilee on Saturday November 15th for the first time as a featured artist.
7-9 pm. 116 N. Maple St. Nowata, OK (918)273-2340
It's been a very long
adjustment period since my move here to Oklahoma but things are starting to
work out well for me. I've been meeting some great musicians and have
befriended members of Live Wire who just won the Colgate regional playoff
in South Dakota. Unquestionably one of the best bands i have ever
heard. My horse Sarah hurt her leg a
few months ago but she is doing fine now. I have discovered that
horses are very difficult to nurse. I don't know where they ever came
up with the saying "Good Ole Horse Sense" because I have not witnessd
any here with my sweet gal !! That's about it, I still need a new roof on
the house. Any volunteers ? Well
ya'll take care, Ron Wayne

| Underneath The White Flag
Relationships between a father and son come in all sizes, shapes and forms and are probably one of the hardest emotions a son will ever have to deal with in his life and when he does figure it all out, if he ever does, it is usually too late to do anything about it. I can’t say I am an exception to the rule but an off the cuff statement from my co-writer Tom Mitchell who it turns out pretty much shared the same relationship with his father as I did mine led us to write “Underneath The White Flag” As was the obligatory thing to do by Nashville songwriters at the time and probably still is we were ripping apart the current hot artist on the “Row” and discussing how he was doing everything wrong as far as we were concerned. The “Hot Artist” at that time was Paul Overstreet and we pretty much agreed we thought his songs sounded like fairy tales and just a little bit too much fluff for our taste. Tom said “If you believe ol Paul everyone’s father was this great philosopher spitting out words of wisdom but I don’t remember it that way at my house. “ I just laughed and said “Tom, did you ever hear these words at your house ? “As long as you live under my roof you’ll do what I say” Tom just laughed and said “Now that sounds more like what I remember. We ought to write that song” so we did. We set the song up so it sounds like you are listening in on a telephone conversation between the father and the son but you are only hearing the son’s side of the conversation. We never got a “Cut” on this song but I have heard that writing songs can be therapeutic and I am sure the truths we uncovered about ourselves and our respective fathers while writing “Underneath The White Flag” would have cost us a lot of money if we had been lying on a couch telling our story to some psychiatrist for a hundred bucks an hour. "Underneath The White Flag" Hey dad I'm glad I got you on the phone I just called tonight to say I'm coming home I know it's not Christmas and nothing's wrong Except something that goes back a long, long time I just realized I'm older now Than you were the day we drew these battle lines Let's not start another argument that's what this whole trip's all about I'm driving in tonight dad tomorrow you and me will work this out I'm not gonna try and change you, you know you can't change me But we don't have to change to do what's right That day we burned our bridges dad We both left folks we love on either side (Chorus) I'm coming home underneath the white flag tonight With an olive branch in my left hand a white dove in my right Well bury this old hatchet and save the family tree We can't replace the past now that it's gone But we can face the fact that we're both wrong And It's been too long Dad I'm coming home (Bridge) If someone wants to say I love you They're gonna get a real good chance But if that's too much for the both of us Maybe we can just shake hands (Repeat Chorus) (Repeat Chorus to fade.......) Below are some of the artists I have produced so you can give them a listen to see if you like the sound I am getting and you can contact them to get a reference on how they liked working with me. No matter if you choose to have me or someone else produce your next recording project make sure you check us out. If you can't hear samples of a producer's previous work or correspond with someone who has worked with them then it is too early to be writing anyone a check. Just because someone sends you an e mail telling you they think you are the hottest thing since Garth Brooks or Shania Twain doesn't mean they are a good honest producer. Check everyone out that you do business with BEFORE you write the check and you won't end up being one of those artists that gets scammed. - Lonnie _ E Mail me at: NashvilleShowcase@comcast.net

Lonnie Ratliff ~ Record Production
5 song live session recorded in Nashville
1. Cost is $3,750 (Three Thousand Seven Hundred & Fifty Dollars). This includes Studio, Musicians, Etc! and you end up with a mixed CD of your project. There are not a lot of hidden costs that will be tacked on. The only additional costs I can think of would be $150 if you want us to Master it for you before it goes to your pressing plant. (Call me and I can explain Mastering to you) The other thing that could cost you later is that you might have to pay songwriter royalties if you have recorded someone elses songs and are gonna include it on your CD to sell. (Example = If you want to record a George Strait song or a Taylor Swift song then you will have to pay a royalty to use that song) I can help point you in the right direction to obtain a license from the Harry Fox Agency.
2. For those artist who are new at this, Production is just about getting your songs recorded and ready to be made into CD's that you can sell. I don't press up the 500 or 1000 CD's for you but I can recommend Karen Bruno at Amazon Audio who can take care of everything for you. I believe it costs about $1500 for a 1000 CD's. A lot of the artists I produce will cut a couple of 5 song sessions with me and then put them together and press up a CD they can sell and get their money back.
3. First thing we need to do is figure out if we can work together and come up with something we can both be proud of. You can listen to the artists I have produced (Click Here) and get an idea of what I do. If you are a decent singer and I believe we can make a respectable recording then I will probably be glad to work with you.
4. Deposits & Payments: The first thing required is a $200 deposit and once that is paid we can start putting together your session. I will help you find the songs if needed and will arrange them for you using any ideas you may have. Once we find the songs and have picked a date you send me the balance of $3,550 at least 2 weeks before the session date and I book your session at a studio on Music Row. I normally use Dixiana Studio. We will cut the basic tracks and overdubs there and then cut the final vocals, harmonies and mix at Smokehouse studio.
5. The Band normally will consist of Bass, Drums, Rhythm Guitar, Piano, Steel Guitar, Fiddle, Dobro, Electric Guitar & Mandolin. If I believe a particular song calls for a specialty instrument I will use it and there is no additional charge. I do not try to cut corners by taking short cuts on the musicians we use.
6. Original songs. I have about 200 songs in my Music Publishing Company that you are welcome to use (Royalty Free) if you are using them on any project I produce.
7. Time it will take to record. Figure that it will take about 3 days in the studio. If you are on a tight schedule you're part will be over in two days. First day we cut the tracks with a scratch vocal and the second day you will sing your final vocals. I figure you will have up to 45 minutes to sing each song.
8. Practice Guitar tracks if needed. If you think you may have trouble singing any of the songs you pick and do not play an instrument I can record and send you an acoustic guitar track of the song so you can practice it before you come to Nashville.
9. Final thoughts. Keep in mind that you are hiring me to make you sound good and I take my job very seriously. I will do my best to see that you have a good time in the studio. I work with some of the best studio musicians in Nashville and they will do everything in their power to make the best recording of your music as possible. Feel free to E Mail any of the artists I have worked with (Click Here) before and ask them any questions you may have about working with me. Once you have paid your deposit I am on your team and you can call (615) 742 0666 and ask me any questions you have and I will try my best to give you an answer. Probably half of the artist I work with are recording their first CD and have a lot of questions so don't be embarrassed to ask about anything you don't understand.
I look forward to working with you and hope I can be a part of your musical future.
Lonnie Ratliff

Lonnie’s Economy Recording Music Package
Check out my little side business. For you artists that can’t afford the time or money to come to Nashville to record right now or just need a song or two to finish out your CD or to put up on MYSPACE etc! - I have a website of songs I own the Master Recordings on and I can lease you the music track and furnish you with a Mechanical license so you are 100% legal for $250 - The only catch is that you have to be able to sing them in the key they are recorded in so just go to the website below to find out. They are much like the Karaoke tracks you buy except most of them are original songs though not all of them and you will have a Mechanical License giving you the right to use the songs. You can post it on MYSPACE, YouTube, Sing it on American Idol, Put it on your CD to sell or sell downloads of it on the internet. You can pay for these music tracks with your credit card if you prefer. I then mail you a CD with the music track and you just take it into your local recording studio and add your vocals and harmony and you got it. If this sounds like something you may be interested in just go to my website below and see if there is anything you like there that is in your key. I have most of the Lyrics posted. Just “Click” on lyrics to see them. Any questions just E Mail me NashvilleShowcase@comcast.net
