What a fan had to say about
Lance
Miller
As
country as country can be, this country boy has the voice and talent that
Nashille should not over look. He is true traditional country and man can
he sing. This album takes me a few years back to when I listened to my Mom
and Dad playing albums (not CD's.) I was hooked then and now I can listen
to it again by someone out there who knows how to sing country music. He's
what Honky Tonk's are all about, he's what I want to hear when I go into
one.
The Grand Ole Opry
I have my Opry debut under my
belt now. It was not only a dream of mine, but a family dream as well.
There were so many feelings and emotions going on last night, but over all
a real peace of mind. It is nice to play your music somewhere that you feel
like you belong. I say that with great respect and a humble attitude. It is
no doubt in my mind why the Opry has been called the “Mother Church
of Country Music.” If you don’t feel the reverence in that
hallowed building, you might want to check yourself. Thanks to Pete Fisher
and the Grand Ole Opry for making not only mine, but a family dream come to
life. I thought of my Dad as I was singing, and all the times I had seen
him perform. I thought about my Grandpa Miller and how proud he would have
been. I also thought about his Dad before, Pa Miller, who played fiddle at
barn dances in Southern Illinois. I hope that was the first of many
performances on that stage. I not only thank the Opry, but the crowds who
drive in from all over the country, and from all over the world to hear
“real country music.” As always, I thank you all for your
support, and I type this blog on this Sunday morning after my Opry debut
with a happy heart.
Thank you,
Lance

_________
“Rollin’ on Home for
Christmas”
“History of a song”
My name is
Jim Carter and I am a professional songwriter who lives in Nashville,
Tennessee. Now being a
songwriter in Nashville doesn’t make you the exception, it’s
more like you’re just one of the crowd. If I were still living back in my home town of
Indiahoma, Oklahoma and writing songs I would probably be one of a
kind.
A quick side story on being a songwriter in Nashville. I’ve lived in Nashville
since the late 70’s so I’ve been around for quite a while. Once upon a time Lacy J. Dalton
had a big hit song called “16th Avenue”. It was a real positive feel good
song about the music business.
I like to say that every songwriter wrote his “16th
Avenue” but they weren’t all so positive. My version went something like
this. (Keep in mind I wrote
this many years ago and maybe I was in a “slight” state of
depression at the time.) The
title of this song is “Ton of Cocaine.”
One verse went like
this:
I laid my guitar down on the floor and put my 38 up to my
head
I said before I write another song
I’d just as soon be dead
But then I got to
thinkin’ if I killed myself wouldn’t nobody know but
me
Cause they’d never ever miss
another songwriter here in Nashville, Tennessee
Chorus :
I’ve
walked a million miles down on Music Row
Tried to sell my body and had to bare my
soul
Wore out my guitar and damn near
ruined my brain
Hell I
couldn’t get a cut with a ton of cocaine
It’s funny I hadn’t
thought of this song in many years and the other day some of the lyrics
just popped into my head.
There were several more verses but I can’t remember what they
were. I wrote this to be
funny and it still amuses me.
On with the Rollin’ on Home story. I co-wrote this song with
another writer named J.B. Smith who is from Michigan. When we originally wrote the song
we were aiming it in the direction of Garth Brooks. He was cutting a Christmas album
that year and I thought the idea really fit him. Needless to say he didn’t cut the song and I
doubt that he ever heard it although we did pitch it to his publishing
company. The story line of
the song is really just taken out of my life. After we moved to Nashville we would go home to
Oklahoma every year at Christmas time. We had an old ‘72 Chevy van and my wife, Linda,
and I would load the Van with presents, kids, and good cheer and take off
for home. We did sing
Christmas carols with the radio just like the song says. We would wire a wreath to the
front of that old van and the kids asked over and over, how many miles to
go? I did have a horse named
Thunder and Grandma would bake a pumpkin pie. We would always hope for snow though we seldom got it
at Christmas time in that part of southwest Oklahoma. It’s a very autobiographical
song.
The demo for “Rollin’ on Home” was sung by Billy Bob
Shane, a real Wyoming cowboy.
And yes, that is his real name. I think he was somehow kin to Chris LeDeaux. (I
haven’t seen Billy Bob in several years so if somebody out there
knows where he is, let us know.)
Anyway, I took some copies of the song to some radio stations around
the area in Oklahoma where I’m from and they played it for several
years.
Myra Pearce, a Montana cowgirl and Britni
Hendrickson, an Oklahoma cowgirl, both had wonderful cuts of this
song.
Now Gina Michaells, a young lady originally from the Philippines and
living in Norway has cut a version of “Rollin’ on Home”. It has only been downloaded on the internet (YouTube)
for about two weeks and has had over 500,000 hits. Thank you Gina!!! Gina’s record was produced
by my good buddy Lonnie Ratliff, one of Nashville’s best kept
secrets. By best kept secrets
I mean he is a phenomenal producer and not enough people know about
him. So if you want to make a
record (CD) call Lonnie.
I’ve
had pretty good luck with my Christmas songs. The first song I ever got cut was a Christmas song
called “I Wish Every Day Could Be Like Christmas”. It was recorded by Brook Benton of
“Rainy Night in Georgia“ fame. I also had a Christmas song, “What if Elvis
Was Santa Claus”
on the Westwood CD, “Dysfunctional Family
Christmas”. Besides the
three aforementioned Christmas songs I remember writing one other but I
can’t recall the name of that one. So I guess it didn’t work out so well.
I had a couple of songs recorded by Charly McClain, one
of which was a single that went top 10 in Billboard Magazine. The title is “You Are My
Music.” Moe Bandy and Joe Stampley recorded one of my
songs and I also got a cut on a Blues singer named Lonnie Brooks. Tracy Lawrence recorded a song I
wrote; titled “I Hope Heaven Has a Honky-Tonk”.
All the songs I have just mentioned were co-written and I sure want
to give thanks to all my fellow co-writers, without them I wouldn’t
have made it very far.
Here’s to…Ancient Times
and Distant Music…
God bless you
all…
Jim Carter…

After the wedding Perley & Erin have
settled down on the farm with all of Erin's pets. Obviously the
country air is good for the animals because they are multiplying like it is
spring instead of almost Christmas. Here's some photos of the baby

Hangin' out with
Lonnie
This week has been
interesting so I will give you a rundown of some of the things I was
involved in. This past week I have been doing some overdubs
at Smokehouse studio on the new Gina Michaells CD I
am producing for her. This is a real fun project to work
on. I am cutting the music tracks here in Nashville and then sending
them to Gina in Oslo, Norway where she cuts the final vocals and then
brings in harmony singers from the Phillipines to do the harmony. It
is sounding real good. The overdubs involved
Vaughn
Lofstead on guitars, Perley Curtis
played steel guitar and dobro, Bobby
Clark added a banjo track to the project and Jason Roller played
fiddle and mandolin. This week I got
copies of CD's I had produced earlier this year from
Big B
(Norway)and
Lynn
Chisholm (Nova Scotia, Canada). It
is great to listen to the finished CD after you have spent some time away
from it. I am really happy with both of these
projects. i - Tunes downloads
seem to be slowly moving upward while hard copy CD's are down a
little. Just a sign of the times as the public readjusts to how they
listen to country music. Pop and Rock music led the way into the
online world but it looks like Bubba has started surfing the net in big
numbers now. Anyone who is not involved with the new direction
country music is taking will probably be out of sight and out of mind in
the next couple of years. Luckily times are great for all the artists I
know who have figured out how to turn their careers into a small
business. Nowdays you have to just about do everything yourself but
the upside of that is you get to keep most of the money you
make.
My most unique sell this week was an
Erin Hay
CD to Bulgaria and quite a few downloads to
Japan. Once you put your music out there no telling where it is going
to end up.
Just finishing up a Joni
Compretta song from the Lonnie
Ratliff / Gary Bradshaw project
"Pets (Real And Make Believe)" that was written
by David
"D", I think there
may be a cowriter on that but don't have time to chase that info down right
now but will before we release the single "Met My Baby At
TheDog Show" sometimes after the first of the year.
On the creative side I scribbled down a
couple of beginnings for songs I will try to finish when I have time. Here
below is what I have so far.

Old
Pictures
It
sat there in the closet for nigh on twenty
years
When I opened up
that shoe box of pictures
yesterday
A lifetime of
memories on Kodak faded black and
whites
Waiting there for a
chance to have their
say
Looking
at old pictures on a rainy
day
Trying to
put a name to every
face
A
photograph of mama her bible in her
hand
Dressed in her Sunday
best never straying from God's
plan
A beacon in the
darkness of our wild and crazy
lives
Love shining like a
diamond there in Mama's
eyes
Looking
at old pictures on a rainy
day
Trying to
put a name to every
face
Looking
at old pictures on a rainy
day
Trying to put a name
to every face
Just an old
shoebox of memories
Where
a few's slipped out of
place
Lost in time these
ties to yesterday
There's
a story they could
tell
But they keep it too
their self
A mystery that
time has stole away
From
those looking at old pictures
On a rainy
day

Another Trucker Passing
By
(probably
the chorus)
Eighteen
wheels roll on past a love that's been long
gone
At least it's been long
gone for one of us
The city lights
are shining bright on me and this ole truck
tonight
As I'm drivin' past my one and
only love
She don't suspect a thing, she
don't know about my pain
Unlike some of us
she's gone on with her life .. and I'm
just
Another trucker passing

Ratliff ~ Record Production~ 5
Songs 1.
Cost for 5 songs is $3,750 (Three Thousand Seven Hundred & Fifty
Dollars). This includes Studio, Musicians, Etc! and you end up with a mixed
CD of your project. There are not a lot of hidden costs that will be tacked
on. The only additional costs I can think of would be $150 if you want us
to Master it for you before it goes to your pressing plant. (Call me and I
can explain Mastering to you) The other thing that could cost you later is
that you might have to pay songwriter royalties if you have recorded
someone elses songs and are gonna include it on your CD to sell. (Example =
If you want to record a George Strait song or a Taylor Swift song then you
will have to pay a royalty to use that song) I can help point you in the
right direction to obtain a license from the Harry Fox
Agency.
2. For those artist who
are new at this, Production is just about getting your songs recorded and
ready to be made into CD's that you can sell. I don't press up the 500 or
1000 CD's for you but I can recommend Karen Bruno at Amazon Audio who can take care of
everything for you. I believe it costs about $1500 for a 1000 CD's. A lot
of the artists I produce will cut a couple of 5 song sessions with me and
then put them together and press up a CD they can sell and get their money
back.
3.
First thing we need to do is figure out if we can work together and come up
with something we can both be proud of. You can listen to the artists I
have produced (Click
Here) and get an idea of what I do. If you are a decent singer and I
believe we can make a respectable recording then I will probably be glad to
work with you.
4. Deposits &
Payments: The first thing required is a $200 deposit and once that is paid
we can start putting together your session. I will help you find the songs
if needed and will arrange them for you using any ideas you may have. Once
we find the songs and have picked a date you send me the balance of $3,550
at least 2 weeks before the session date and I book your session at a
studio on Music Row. I normally use Dixiana
Studio. We will cut the basic tracks and overdubs there and then cut
the final vocals, harmonies and mix at Smokehouse
studio.
5. The Band normally will
consist of Bass, Drums, Rhythm Guitar, Piano, Steel Guitar, Fiddle, Dobro,
Electric Guitar & Mandolin. If I believe a particular song calls for a
specialty instrument I will use it and there is no additional charge. I do
not try to cut corners by taking short cuts on the musicians we
use.
6. Original songs. I have about
200 songs in my Music Publishing Company that you are welcome to use
(Royalty Free) if you are using them on any project I
produce.
7. Time it will take to
record. Figure that it will take about 3 days in the studio. If you are on
a tight schedule you're part will be over in two days. First day we cut the
tracks with a scratch vocal and the second day you will sing your final
vocals. I figure you will have up to 45 minutes to sing each
song.
8. Practice Guitar tracks if
needed. If you think you may have trouble singing any of the songs you pick
and do not play an instrument I can record and send you an acoustic guitar
track of the song so you can practice it before you come to
Nashville.
9. Final thoughts. Keep in
mind that you are hiring me to make you sound good and I take my job very
seriously. I will do my best to see that you have a good time in the
studio. I work with some of the best studio musicians in Nashville and they
will do everything in their power to make the best recording of your music
as possible. Feel free to E Mail any of the artists I have worked with (Click Here) before
and ask them any questions you may have about working with me. Once you
have paid your deposit I am on your team and you can call
(615) 742 0666 and ask me any questions you have and I will
try my best to give you an answer. Probably half of the artist I work with
are recording their first CD and have a lot of questions so don't be
embarrassed to ask about anything you don't
understand.
I look forward to working
with you and hope I can be a part of your musical
future.

===============================================

A LETTER FROM AN OLD FRIEND.
I get mail from amateur
songwriters,
many of them past acquaintances who feel something is
due them
for associating with me before I was of any practical use.
A few years back I received one a lot like the example shown
below.
(Notes in parentheses are mine.)
"Hi, Jack! Sorry about taking
so long to answer your letter
(Note -- Eight years),
but we've
had company from out of town.
We were just talking about you the
other day
after we noticed your record albums in the stores up here.
You look great, even with the long hair and strange clothes.
Have you put on weight?
(Note - He just killed any chance of a
favor.)
"Do you remember the cold winter night I gave
you a lift
down to the gas station to get kerosene for your heater
after the gas and electric companies had shut you off!
And I'd
have run you all the way back home through the blizzard,
except for
the smell of the kerosene.
"Well, you finally made it, didn't you?
Everybody up here always knew you would.
We were just kidding when
we used to call you a no-good bum.
HA -- HA. We were just trying to
put some spunk into you,
and you'll have to admit -- IT WORKED!
"Since
you are an old friend I am giving you first crack
at the enclosed
original song.
If you don't record it I'll have to send it to Johnny
Cash,
so let me know right away, and don't worry --
it's
copyrighted.
"Your old kerosene buddy,
Robert."
The
following is the hit he enclosed:
WHEN I'M GONE
(or THE GOODBYE SONG)
When I'm
gone - you'll find that I won't be here anymore
When I go - I'll say
goodbye and walk out thru the door
Then you'll see it won't be me
that's with you as before
When I'm gone - you'll find that I won't be
here anymore.
(SECOND VERSE)
When I'm gone - if you're
alone you'll know that I'm not here
When I go - if I am far away
you'll know I won't be near
Then you'll see it won't be me that's
with you as before
When I'm gone - you'll find that I won't be here
anymore.
(CHORUS)
Goodbye - Goodbye - I think you
ought to know
It doesn't mean I'm going to stay
It means I'm
going to go
Goodbye - Goodbye - The sun comes up at dawn
You'll
find I won't be here no more,
Honey, when I'm gone."
My
answer:
"Dear Robert,
"In unbiased critical
appraisal
I must admit that your lyric has a certain steadfastness,
not leaving the slightest worry in the listener's mind
as to
the protagonist's departure.
"It drives home the point and makes its title
known
with a repetitiveness highly valued in the commercial field.
Its simplicity is to be complimented
as well as its portrayal
of a situation
in which each of us has found himself at one time or
another.
"The first-person style and identifiability of
the characters
only strengthen the argument
that you have
invested the total of your talent
in this one grand effort.
"In
consideration of the above
and in sincere gratitude for the kerosene
you took me to get,
I cannot, in good conscience,
stand in the
way of you and Johnny Cash.
"Please send it to him and take all the credit
for yourself.
Don't mention me at all.
Heaven knows you deserve
it.
"Your
old friend,
Mr. Blanchard"

Lonnie’s Economy
Recording Music Package
Check out my little side
business. For you artists that can’t afford the time or money to come
to Nashville to record right now or just need a song or two to finish out
your CD or to put up on MYSPACE etc! - I have a website of songs I own the
Master Recordings on and I can lease you the music track and furnish you
with a Mechanical license so you are 100% legal for $250 - The only catch
is that you have to be able to sing them in the key they are recorded in so
just go to the website below to find out. They are much like the
Karaoke tracks you buy except most of them are original songs though
not all of them and you will have a Mechanical License giving you the right
to use the songs. You can post it on MYSPACE, YouTube, Sing it on American
Idol, Put it on your CD to sell or sell downloads of it on the
internet. You can pay for these music tracks with your credit
card if you prefer. I then mail you a CD with the music track and you just
take it into your local recording studio and add your vocals and harmony
and you got it. If this sounds like something you may be interested in just
go to my website below and see if there is anything you like there that is
in your key. I have most of the Lyrics posted. Just “Click” on
lyrics to see them. Any questions just E Mail me NashvilleShowcase@comcast.net
Visit my website to see
what songs are available

NOTE from Lonnie - I
always feel a little guilty because I never have time to listen to mp3's
new artists and songwriters send me, unsolicited I might add. I hate
it but I just delete them because I finally figured out I could try to
be a nice guy or I could try to work and pay my bills. My banker
had a very stern suggestion that I needed to keep working and be a nice
guy on my own time after all my bills were paid. Turns out that
spare time does not exist so I just had to give up on listening to
unsolicited mp3's, CD's and giving my opinions and suggestions. Now I
just concentrate on my music business out of necessity but I figure I can
give you some links that will answer your questions better than I could
anyway.

very hard these days if you don't have enough money or if you don't
know the right people. And the best news is I'm
already looking for more great country songs to put on my next album to be
released in the summer 2009 or spring
2010. Until next time. Best

JENKINS NEW TRUCK DRIVING ALBUM "TRUCKER'S PARADISE" "First of all I would like to thank Scania for choosing
me to do this truck driving project in Nashville for them. It was
a great pleasure working with all these superpickers and I want to
thank them all for making the album sound "stone country" Jennifer
O'Brien who has worked for Dolly Parton for 20 years, came by to do the background vocals. Joey Schmidt from Vince Gill's band added
some cajun flavor to the tune "Shreveport Truckstop Blues" with his
accordion. It took me 36 years to track down one of my singing heroes
- the man with the deep voice Jack Barlow - now 84 years old. Thanks
for singing with me on your song "Through Hell and Half Of Georgia" -
I'm honored - you did a great job! Dawn Sears and Becky Hobbs - I
could'nt have had better female duet partners - I love you both! My
old friend John Riggs - thanks for the duet and for writing the song "Kings
Of The Road" for this album. George and Jesse at the Bayou Studio -
you were great. A BIG THANK YOU to my buddy since 1983, Dennis
Adkins who produced the album and sang with me on his tune "Made For
The Road".
Red Jenkins
"My good friend,
Red Jenkins has traveled all the way from Sweden to Nashville, TN, to
record the best truck driving album that's been recorded in
the past 25 years. This CDshould be a constant companion to
every truckdriver who makes the cab of his truck, his home away from
home. It was a pleasure to record one of the songs in this album with
Red. Red Jenkins has a feel for truck driving songs and a feel for
country music, and his great talent has made me a fan of his -- for
life". Jack Barlow
"In my 30 years in Nashville I've
never had so much fun working on a project. Thanks to Scania, Red
Jenkins and some of Nashville's finest musicians. I think
we've made one of the best truck driving albums ever" Dennis Adkins
"When asking to sing with Red on this project, I was
delighted to do so. But when he said we would be singing a Mel
Street song, I was really excited to do it, being a lover of traditional
country music. I hope you enjoy Red's album and it's wonderful
traditional flavor. It's good for what ails you! Dawn
Sears
"Red Jenkins brings us the spirit of the road, not
only by honoring the heroes of the highway, but also by letting us
look back into the lives of everyday, hardworking people. I'm thrilled to
be a part of this album! Becky Hobbs
"When I
was asked to write and sing a song together with Red for this truck driving
album, I jumped at the chance. It was an opportunity and a pleasure to
work with a lot of my friends and sing about a lot of my friends, some living ans some who've passed on. I've always had a lot of respect for
these "kings of the road" and I've always thought that country music
sounded a little better inside the cab of a big rig. John Riggs

There You All Country Fans! This country girl who has been off her
nursing job of 15 years is making her way to Nashville Nov. 13th-16th.
I start my new job on the 17th in LA, and so it is only right that I
start it with some time in one of my favorite places on earth, NASHVILLE!
Rumor has it that I may be in line for some back stage passes to THE
GRAND OL OPRY! =========================================================== Tommy
Overstreet Hello
Lonnie: Thanks
for including me in your Nashville Showcase. Here's what's happening
in Tommy Overstreet's life at this
time: [
A new album (CD) has been released titled "20 Classic Songs of Tommy Overstreet", on Varese
Sarabande Records. These are 20 of my hit recordings
re-recorded. I believe we captured the original sounds, but with
today's technology the recordings sound bigger and I hope
better. Madacy
Entertainment has inked a worldwide distribution deal with EMI and a 3-CD
set titled "Tommy Overstreet
Sings 36 Country Gospel Favorites" is in the new deal.
These contain 31 all-time classic Gospel evergreens, and 5 newly written
songs co-written by me. This was released in 2007 and did very
well, but with the new distribution I believe they will be found in new
outlets
worldwide. I
produced a 36 song package on Albert E. Brumley, Jr. (Al Brumley), titled
"36 Greatest Gospel Memories
- A Tribute To The World's Greatest Gospel Songwriter, Albert E.
Brumley" - Al did duets with 30 major Country and Gospel
artists in this great and historic package. Duets include: Merle
Haggard, George Jones, Porter Wagoner, Bill Anderson, Hank Thompson, Glen
Campbell, Roy Clark, Larry Gatlin, The Jordanaires, and Sons of the
Pioneers, to name but a few. There are 9 Country Music Hall of Fame
members included on this CD. Chet Atkins played on two prior to his
untimely death, as did Johnny Russell. There is history in every
song, and will be seen nationally on TV in the coming weeks, with a 1-800
offer. My
friend and partner, Jerry Naylor, has produced a wonderful package which I
had a hand in helping with. It is titled "The Rockabilly Legends - A Tribute To
My Friends". Jerry became the former lead
singer of the internationally famous, "CRICKETS", after the untimely death
of Buddy Holly. He traveled the world singing the great Rockabilly
hits of that era, and now we have put together a beautiful hardcover book
titled, "The Rockabilly
Legends", which is available through Borders, Barnes &
Noble and Amazon, com. The package includes a nearly two hour
Documentary, which we have signed with PBS, Four Sound Track CD's, and 110 All-Time Classic
Recordings - featuring original recordings by Johnny Cash,
Buddy Holly, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Roy
Orbison, plus many other artists from the late 50's and early 60's.
We are doing two initial concerts this month (November 20th at Linfield
College, McMinnville, Oregon and November 22nd at the Columbia Theater in
Longview, Washington). Jerry Naylor, Stan Perkins (son of the late
Carl Perkins) and myself. We will be doing this "Tribute" show in 2009
in the U.K, Japan and throughout the U.S and Canada. Please watch for
us.

Just checking in to see how
ya doing. I am keeping busy here. Promoting that cd "Follow Your
Heart" and galloping around to radio stations in and
around Nova Scotia. I go every Thursday/ Friday. I am actually getting
interviews at some of these stations. I am back with the little band again
and opening up in more place . It seems my name is going wild. I have also
been invited to join a band in Halifax (our major city) as their lead
singer. That will be just what the doctor ordered if that works out.
I have been invited to a Veteran Service to sing Midnight
At The Old Soldiers Home (click to play) and I had
it video taped to prepare for a YouTube. Can't wait to show it to
ya. I have applied for a ECMA showcase ( discovery stage) to
take place in Corner Brook NFLD. I will know in Jan if I am excepted.
That would be gravy to get there. I see this now just opening up to
my province and Maritime Provinces, and I would definately love
to open myself up to Canada evenually. I don't want to stop. I'll keep ya
in touch. =============================================

Mondays in Canton has been a Texas tradition since the 1850s, and now, so
is Cline’s Corner. Cline’s Corner is owned by David and
Becky Cline, located at Old Mill Market Place on The Mountain, and provides
country music entertainment on First Mondays. Cline is a veteran
country singer/songwriter, who has traveled the world, including Europe,
performing his original music. Cline is currently working on his 7th
country CD and also has recorded one gospel CD. Cline is regularly
joined by country/gospel singer Tammy Miller. Miller has performed at
oprys, special events, fairs and festivals throughout Texas, as well as
Nashville, NYC & Oklahoma. In 2001, she was nominated as Female
Vocalist of the year by Coast to Coast Country Music
Magazine. Cline’s Corner opened a year ago and both Cline and
Miller perform there every month. Brett Miller, Tammy’s husband, runs
the sound board and they host a variety of singers for their shows. "We are
always looking for new talent," said Tammy Miller. Cline and Miller
were joined at Cline’s Corner on Saturday, November 1, 2008, by
Candice Lloyd and Mallory Rardin. Lloyd is a senior at Rockwall-Heath
High School. She began singing on stage at age 13 at Rodeo City Music Hall
in Mesquite, Texas, where she received the 2007 Female Horizon Award. In
addition to singing, Lloyd writes song lyrics and hopes to record one of
her original tunes next year, as well as release a new CD. Rardin
attends Smithfield Junior High in North Richland Hills and is 12 years old.
She sang the National Anthem at Texas Motor Speedway in 2004, and again in
2006 at the request of the Mayor of North Richland Hills for their
Policeman’s Ball. Rardin’s future bookings include Cline's
Corner and RCMH, on November 15, 2008. "I am honored to have such
talented artists grace our stage," said Cline. "I have received lots of
compliments, from the surrounding vendors on The Mountain, on the talent we
had Saturday." Join David Cline and Tammy Miller during First Mondays
in Canton at Cline’s Corner with feature shows on Friday and Saturday
nights, as well as performances during the shopping hours the entire
weekend. For more information on David Cline’s performance

weight and becoming quite an active 7-month-old. Thanks to everyone
for all their kind words, support and prayers for his speedy recovery
because they surely did the trick.
Sammy Hundley and I
(Parrish-Hundley Band) just finished an awesome show at the Armadillo
Palace in Houston last weekend. The band had a great time with Mike
Blattel on drums & percussion, Mitch Bergen on Bass and Background
Vocals, Frank DeBretti (formerly with Blake Shelton, SheDaisy, Mindy
McCready and others) splitting lead guitar chores with Sammy. Sammy,
Frank and I all had a part in playing the rhythms and of course Sammy and I
on vocals. It was a LOT of fun and we're booked to play there again
on December 6th.
In the meantime, Sammy and I are working on
finishing up the material we've been writing for the Parrish-Hundley
Project which we hope to begin recording in the next month and we'll be
back in the studio a few times this month with the band for
rehearsals. It's been a rough couple months with the 3 "esses" (S's)
- the storm (Ike), the surgery (Kendryck) and the shows but things are
finally beginning to settle down and we're getting back to the business of
makin' music.
We'd like to wish everyone a very safe and

Spotlight
on a Lonnie Ratliff original song!
Underneath The White Flag
Relationships between a father and son come in all sizes,
shapes and forms and are probably one of the hardest emotions a son will
ever have to deal with in his life and when he does figure it all out, if
he ever does, it is usually too late to do anything about it.
I
can’t say I am an exception to the rule but an off the cuff statement
from my co-writer Tom Mitchell who it turns out pretty much shared the same
relationship with his father as I did mine led us to write
“Underneath The White Flag”
As was the obligatory
thing to do by Nashville songwriters at the time and probably still is we
were ripping apart the current hot artist on the “Row” and
discussing how he was doing everything wrong as far as we were concerned.
The “Hot Artist” at that time was Paul Overstreet and we pretty
much agreed we thought his songs sounded like fairy tales and just a little
bit too much fluff for our taste.
Tom said “If you
believe ol Paul everyone’s father was this great philosopher spitting
out words of wisdom but I don’t remember it that way at my house.
“ I just laughed and said “Tom, did you ever hear these words
at your house ? “As long as you live under my roof you’ll do
what I say” Tom just laughed and said “Now that sounds more
like what I remember. We ought to write that song” so we did.
We set the song up so it sounds like you are listening in on a
telephone conversation between the father and the son but you are only
hearing the son’s side of the conversation.
We never got
a “Cut” on this song but I have heard that writing songs can be
therapeutic and I am sure the truths we uncovered about ourselves and our
respective fathers while writing “Underneath The White Flag”
would have cost us a lot of money if we had been lying on a couch telling
our story to some psychiatrist for a hundred bucks an hour.
"Underneath The White Flag"
Hey dad I'm
glad I got you on the phone I just called tonight to say I'm coming
home I know it's not Christmas and nothing's wrong Except
something that goes back a long, long time I just realized I'm older
now Than you were the day we drew these battle lines
Let's not start another argument that's what this whole trip's all about
I'm driving in tonight dad tomorrow you and me will work this out I'm not gonna try and change you, you know you can't change me But
we don't have to change to do what's right That day we burned our
bridges dad We both left folks we love on either side
(Chorus) I'm coming home underneath the white flag tonight With an olive branch in my left hand a white dove in my right Well
bury this old hatchet and save the family tree We can't replace the
past now that it's gone But we can face the fact that we're both
wrong And It's been too long Dad I'm coming home
(Bridge)
If someone wants to say I love you They're gonna get a real
good chance But if that's too much for the both of us Maybe we
can just shake hands
(Repeat Chorus) (Repeat Chorus to
fade.......)

Below are some
of the artists I have produced so you can give them a listen to see if
you like the sound I am getting and you can contact them to get a reference
on how they liked working with me. No matter if you choose to have me
or someone else produce your next recording project make sure you check us
out. If you can't hear samples of a producer's previous
work or correspond with someone who has worked with them then it is too
early to be writing anyone a check. Just because someone sends you an
e mail telling you they think you are the hottest thing since Garth Brooks
or Shania Twain doesn't mean they are a good honest producer. Check
everyone out that you do business with BEFORE you write the check and you
won't end up being one of those artists that gets scammed. -
